Gait Analysis Overview

Our gait is the way in which we move from one position to another. At Tri-N-Run, we use a gait analysis as a method to assess the way you walk and run to highlight biomechanics such as supination, normal pronation, or overpronation. This is an important step in selecting a walking/running shoe that is right for you, as technical running shoes are each designed to meet the specific needs of different gaits and foot shapes. The gait analysis will allow our professional staff to guide you in the selection of shoes that meet your individual gait.

Get the Correct Shoe with Gait Analysis

The photo to the right shows how much of a difference can be made by getting fit in the correct shoe. On the left is an example of someone who severely overpronates. Notice how much the ankles rotate inward as the foot transitions from heel to toe. One the right is the same person wearing an Asics Kayano which has the support this individual needs to help slow the rate of pronation. You can see how upright the ankle now remains. Fitting you into the correct shoe is key to helping you avoid potential injuries.

Tri-N-Run's experienced staff will be able to provide a professional fitting so that you have the most enjoyment from your new pair of shoes. When fitting for a pair of walking/running shoes there are additional features that should be addressed other than just immediate feel and color. A gait analysis is an important part of your fit process to determine if you need a neutral, stability, or motion control shoe. During the gait analysis, Tri-N-Run's staff will also assess your needs for insoles and discuss options with you. In addition to providing a gait analysis, Tri-N-Run's staff will ask you questions about how you plan to use the shoes, how often, how far, if you have had any injuries, and your experiences with shoes in the past. In this way the staff will be able to fine tune suggestions that meet your individual gait and situation best.

As you can see in the photographs above, a technical running shoe that meets your individual gait helps align the body while walking/running and can reduce injuries. At Tri-N-Run, we use a gait analysis as a method to assess the way one walks and runs to highlight biomechanics such as supination, normal pronation, or overpronation. This is an important step in selecting a walking/running shoe. The gait analysis will allow our professional staff to guide you in the selection of shoes that meet your individual needs.

The gait analysis is not as scary as it may sound. Tri-N-Run's staff will ask you to walk barefoot several times across the floor. We may have you do some other simple movements. From there we will watch you walk/run in a running shoe that meets your needs using the treadmill or outside. Tri-N-Run's staff will provide several options for you to select from. The process usually takes about 20 minutes but may take longer if you are having several issues.  This is to make sure we address all issues appropriately.

You do not need an appointment, come on in.  You can expect to spend 20-40 minutes with the knowledgable staff at Tri-N-Run for your gait analysis and fitting.

The gait analysis is FREE when buying shoes at Tri-N-Run. If you desire our professional staff to provide a gait analysis but want to shop elsewhere then there is a $25 charge.  Not only will Tri-N-Run provide the gait analysis, but all our running shoes come with a 30-day test run guarantee.  Check out the Return Policy for more details.
